Our Story

Spine Stretch Studio is an award winning multidisciplinary health care facility officially offering STOTT PILATES training, Registered Massage Therapy, Naturopathy, Acupuncture, Osteopathy, infrared sauna therapy and wellness programs.

Pilates is a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed over ninety years ago by J. H. Pilates. Practiced today is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method.

At Spine Stretch Studio, we practice STOTT PILATES focusing on restoring the natural curves of the spine, rebalancing muscles surrounding the joints, and using a specific breathing pattern to engage abdominal muscles and decrease unnecessary muscle tension in the neck and shoulders. There are preparatory exercises and modifications to make the exercises safe and effective for everyone. Pilates is a stress relieving way to achieve and maintain optimal fitness and a sense of well-being.

Spine Stretch Studio is a premier 4000 sq ft facility. It is home to 2 large group class studio rooms, 2 private training rooms, 5 treatment rooms, an infrared sauna room, complementary cardio room, dressing room and shower facilities. Unlike most gyms, we proudly equip a full range of STOTT PILATES equipment. Our equipment is thoroughly maintained with continuous additions as advancing equipment becomes available. We are excited to introduce and educate the benefits of infrared heating into our facility as well as infrared bamboo charcoal mats. We are conveniently located in the heart of Aurora with parking available on site.

GETTING STARTED

A one-on-one introductory session/initial assessment is recommended, but not required, to assess your needs. This session is designed to help you begin to create an awareness of your deep torso muscles and establish a foundation in the basics of Pilates. The initial assessment most effectively allows our skilled Instructors determine the appropriate level of private training or class for those with previous Pilates experience. Group class sessions or a series of private sessions will continue to develop these skills. All private one-on-one sessions are tailored to suit your needs.

Pilates training options available:

  • Private personal training: one-on-one instruction
  • Semi-private/Duet training: two participants with an instructor
  • Instructor-led groups: join a scheduled group class or coordinate your own group of three to six people

Sessions and classes are typically one hour in length, but may be adjusted if needed. Spine Stretch Studio values quality over quantity. Our group classes are limited to 5-7 participants allowing the Instructors to observe each individual, challenge and modify as needed. Please arrive a few minutes early to receive your full session.

The Director

Lisa Bender, D.O.M.P., RMT, Director of Spine Stretch Studio Inc

Lisa Bender is an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, Registered Massage Therapist and STOTT® Certified Pilates Instructor.  Lisa believes that optimal health begins with intelligent exercise and unifying body and physiological function.

Lisa has been practicing Massage Therapy since 1998.  Determined to become more educated in movement therapy, Lisa completed her training to become a STOTT® Certified Pilates Instructor and continued her education in therapeutic Pilates training by The Pilates Process.  Using her anatomy background, Lisa continued her path of healing with rehabilitation through Pilates.  Lisa opened Spine Stretch Studio in 2002, offering STOTT PILATES® training and Massage Therapy.  The studio grew quickly as members experienced the benefits of these two disciplines.  Taking a leap, Lisa moved into a large facility expanding into a fully equipped Pilates Studio and Wellness Centre incorporating Pilates training, Massage Therapy, Naturopathy, Acupuncture and other holistic therapies.  Through hard work and dedication, Lisa was awarded a Business of the Year award from the Aurora Chamber of Commerce in 2009.   

In 2015, Lisa graduated from Southern Ontario College of Osteopathy with an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner diploma and received an award for the highest grade on the final examination.   Bridging her expertise in Pilates and 17 years of clinical experience, Lisa extensively researched the connection between the psoas muscle (primary hip flexor commonly misused, mistreated and mistrained), stress and adrenal fatigue.  Her mission is to empower, educate and create passion in the process of healing and feeling your best.
