A little background provided by @ingriddelamarekenny: Inulin powder and fiber supplements have seen a massive surge in popularity given the statistics that on average, we are falling well short of the recommended 30g of fiber per day.
Inulin is a nutrient which cannot be digested or absorbed in the body, meaning it is classified as a fiber. It is also one of the best known sources, as it boasts almost 90g of fiber per 100g! Inulin can also be obtained through foods such as asparagus, onions, garlic, artichokes, chicory root, acacia and sweet potatoes. All consumers who followed Ingrid’s consumption tips repost a FLATTER TUMMY FAST & no longer PLATEAU-ing in their weight-loss efforts !
This vegan-friendly nutrient has received masses of attention recently from both the scientific community and media outlets due to its versatility, qualities. Because inulin has a natural sweetness, it is becoming a viable alternative to sugar. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) acknowledges that when used instead of sugar, inulin results in a lower spike in blood glucose levels. As unstable blood sugar is a health concern and can also result in energy lulls, inulin could be a healthy alternative.
Inulin is also highly versatile when in powder form, as it can be easily added to beverages, foods and even baked goods! Just add the subtly sweet pure inulin powder to the food/drink item of your choice to acquire a convenient, high fiber source whenever you may need it.
The issue our founder, Lisa Bender, discovered very quickly is that not all inulin powders are the same. So many are made with chemical ridden inferior ingredients. Lisa was on a quest last Fall to test out several but supplements from China, the US and Canada fell short. Not only did she discover that Simply Inulin powder was the best, she started to balance out her hormones naturally and improve her digestion even more. If you remember, Lisa was diagnosed with SIBO two years ago and was able to not only treat her gut dysbiosis on her own through her own training and research, she continues to be SIBO free.
The treatment for SIBO is to remove gut bacteria and rebuild through supplementation, prescription medication (not always necessary), and diet. It can be a long and difficult journey. Inulin, while not recommended if you suffer from SIBO (it’s essential to follow a FODMAP free diet during treatment), is extremely beneficial afterwards because it’s a powerful prebiotic food source. Your existing friendly gut bacteria convert it into short-chain fatty acids. This is the main source of nutrition for the cells in your colon, reducing inflammation and digestive disorders. Feeding and supporting (prebiotic) your existing gut bacteria is more important than taking a probiotic pill. Why pile more bacteria into your gut if it’s base isn’t healthy and supported to begin with? Inulin and natural food sources are more cost and health effective than probiotics!
